About Me

Since 2004, Mrs. McKay has worked extensively in the development of large, mixed-income housing, construction project management, real estate finance, and data analysis of transformative projects in distressed urban areas.  Prior to that, she served as an underwriter at two mortgage companies.  Most recently, Mrs. McKay and her husband completed the renovation of a housing development in the neighborhood in which they were both raised. Mrs. McKay currently provides relocation services that build community for families relocating to New Orleans for work. These families receive a hands-on acclimation to New Orleans comprised of area tours, information on schools and school systems, cultural information and home finding.

In her former position at McCormack Baron Salazar (MBS) Mrs. McKay served as a consultant partner on the B.W. Cooper mixed-income public housing redevelopment and was project manager for the off-site components of the Iberville Revitalization project, which was awarded a 2010 Choice Neighborhood Initiative award.

Prior to joining MBS, Mrs. McKay completed a University of Pennsylvania Center for Urban Redevelopment Excellence (CUREx) fellowship in New Orleans, during which time she served as a project manager for Columbia Residential’s Columbia Parc apartments in New Orleans.  Her work on Columbia Parc involved serving as the day-to-day, on the ground project manager for the development and construction of over 460 units of housing.  Total development costs on the project exceeded $125 million and the project required the coordination of architects, local utilities, engineers, state and local funders, the Housing Authority of New Orleans, the City of New Orleans, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, environmental consultants, and general contractors. Columbia Parc is the recipient of two Affordable Housing Finance 2011 awards—Best Overall Project and Best Family Project.

Mrs. McKay earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Houston and a graduate certificate in Urban Development from the University of Pennsylvania.  She is active in New Orleans public policy, having served as a board member for Citizens for a Better New Orleans and as a policy committee member for the Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance. Monika was in Gambit Magazine’s 40 Under 40 in 2011. She is current Chair of the Grants Committee at the Greater New Orleans Foundation and a trustee of her alma mater, Ursuline Academy. Ms. McKay partnered in the market analysis firm, Spark InSites, and was a certified market analyst. As a Real Estate agent, Mrs. McKay leans on her well rounded real estate development and finance experience to help you create the life you love. Monika McKay is your real estate advisor for life.
